Apple’s CEO is one of 25 members of the new American Workforce Policy Advisory Board which will advise President Trump on issues affecting workers.

Tim Cook and the president have a surprisingly congenial relationship considering they differ on some fundamental issues.

Comittee focused on worker education

Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said “The Advisory Board will work in coordination with the National Council for the American Worker to solve the pressing issues facing American workers and families each day.”

Much of the focus is on educating workers. A statement from the Department of Commerce says the Board will provide advice on “establishing a strategy to ensure that America’s students and workers have access to affordable, relevant, and innovative education.” That includes vocational training as well as colleges and universities.

Ross and the President’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, co-chair the committee. Besides Cook, members include the CEOs of Walmart, Home Depot, Visa, and Lockheed Martin. The governors of Indiana and Iowa are also on the list, as are the presidents of Western Governors University and WSU Tech.

The American Workforce Policy Advisory Board was created last summer by executive order.

Cook and Trump

Apple CEO Tim Cook prefers to try to work with President Trump, even though the two don’t see eye-to-eye on many fundamental issues.

Cook opposes the tariffs the President has applied on imports from China. He‘s in favor of Pres. Obama’s DACA program that protects immigrants brought into the US by their parents. The two disagree on climate change as well.

Still, Apple’s CEO has had several cordial meetings with the President, and Trump often praises the iPhone maker.
