We can only hope that Apple is working on some sort of native dark mode for iOS that extends to the software keyboard we interact with each and every day, but until then, we’ll need to rely on jailbreak tweaks to get what we want.
Dark Keyboard is a subtly-named free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Thomz that forces your iPhone or iPad to display the dark keyboard by default in virtually every typing interface that you can imagine on the iOS platform.
You’ll notice that the dark keyboard also encompasses Apple’s Predictive Keyboard in supported interfaces, a rather nice touch on the developer’s part.
Once installed, Dark Keyboard doesn’t have any options to configure (not that you’d need any), and so the tweak gets to work immediately after installation. I’ve long appreciated simple add-ons like Dark Keyboard because they’re short, sweet, and to the point.
Alternatively, you could pay money for a full-fledged dark mode tweak and achieve a similar result albeit more inclusive of the rest of the iOS interface, but Dark Keyboard is perfect for anyone on a budget.
If you’re interested in having a darker-than-usual keyboard on your iPhone or iPad 100% of the time, then you can download Dark Keyboard for free from Cydia’s Packix repository. The tweak supports all jailbroken devices running iOS 9 through 12.
