If you purchased a ‘Heyday’ Lightning cable from Target, you should stop using it immediately. The retailer has announced a recall of all the Heyday lightning cables sold due to fire and safety hazard.

The recall is applicable for the heyday 3ft Lightning USB cables. Target sold the cable through its stores and online store from June 2018 through January 2019 for $15. The company sold around 90,000 units of the cable during the said time frame.

Below is how Target has described the hazard on the CPSC recall website:

The metal around the cord can become electrically charged if it contacts the USB wall charger plug prongs while charging, posing shock and fire hazards.

The retailer has so far received 14 reports of the cables smoking or sparking which includes two reports of consumers getting their finger burned due to the burning cable.

You can easily identify a Heyday lightning cable from the metal charging cable which is purple, green, and blue iridescent in color. The word “heyday” is also printed on the cable’s connector.

If you own a Heyday Lightning cable or know anyone who does, you should immediately contact Target and stop using the cable for your own safety. Target will refund you the purchase price for returning the cable.
