Taking a screenshot on your iPhone typically involves pressing a couple of buttons, but Ryan Petrch’s popular Activator tweak can help you take a screenshot using almost any other gesture you can set your mind to. Take note of the word “almost” in that statement…

Swipeshot is a new free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Nepeta that lets you take a screenshot on your iPhone or iPad with a three-finger swipe on the Status Bar. As it turns out, this is one of the few gesture techniques that Activator doesn’t appear to provide out of the box.

Swipeshot is particularly interesting because you can swipe your three fingers in virtually any direction you want, whether that’s up, down, left, right, or any other direction. The flexibility can be particularly useful, especially if you don’t have the means of using your device’s hardware buttons and don’t like Activator’s current selection of gestures.

Due to the traditional size of most iOS devices, we think that Swipeshot is most comfortable to use on iPads. That aside, it’s still perfectly capable of being used on any iPhone, assuming three of your fingers are narrow enough register on the handset’s semi-narrow vertical display.

Swipeshot doesn’t come with any options to configure and should work out of the box with all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices. Perhaps more importantly, you can still use the hardware button method for taking screenshots after installing Swipeshot if you should ever want to.

Swipeshot is a free download from Nepeta’s repository in Cydia or Sileo and the tweak is open source on Nepeta’s GitHub page.
