Samsung on Monday announced that it will begin rolling out support for AirPlay 2 and Apple’s new Apple TV app for its smart TV sets. The features will arrive via a firmware update for all 2019 smart TV models, and select 2018 models.
“For the last decade, Samsung has been at the forefront of offering the broadest selection of content available to consumers on our Smart TV platform,” said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. ” As the first TV manufacturer to integrate the Apple TV app on a Smart TV platform, Samsung continues to offer our customers incredible value and access to the Apple TV app experience on the largest screens available today.”
The Apple TV app will be fully integrated into Samsung’s Smart TV platform, allowing users to access all of their iTunes movies and TV show purchases, as well as iTunes’ library of 100,000+ movie and TV titles for rent or purchase. Of course you’ll also be able to subscribe to Apple TV channels—a la carte programming that enables customers to subscribe to individual streaming apps without a cable or satellite plan.
Additionally, Samsung says that the Apple TV app will work seamlessly with Samsung’s Smart TV Services such as Universal Guide and Bixby and Search. Of course all of this coincides with Apple’s release of iOS 12.3 with revamped TV app.
