Rumor: AirPods 3 to Launch in Fall 2019, Feature Noise-Cancellation

A new supply-chain report says that Apple is working with suppliers and assemblers to launch the AirPods 3 by the end of this year. Compared to the 2nd gen AirPods, the AirPods 3 will feature noise-cancellation, something which AirPods users have been wanting for a long time now.

The AirPods 3 will feature a more complicated design which is why Apple will be relying on the more experienced Inventec for its assembly. As of now, the AirPods 2 are assembled by both Luxshare Precision and Inventec.

To meet challenges from rivals, Apple and its supply chain partners are looking to raise the bar by adding new features to AirPods 3, including the noise cancellation function.

This is not the first time we are hearing reports of a potential AirPods 3 launch later this year. However, it is better to take this report with a pinch of salt since DigiTimes track record has been particularly shaky when it comes to Apple leaks.

The addition of noise cancellation will put a strain on battery life so Apple will need to work on implementing it in such a manner that the battery life on AirPods 3 is not affected in any way. It is possible that apart from noise cancellation, the AirPods 3 will have a better surface coating and come with some degree of sweat and water-resistance.

The addition of such features, however, means that the AirPods 3 will be priced higher than the second-generation AirPods. This is something that’s bound to turn away a lot of customers from buying the AirPods 3.
