It looks like the AirPods 2 will indeed go on sale from March 29. As per Applesfera, March 28 is the last day of the life cycle of the original AirPods. The information was provided to the publication by someone who is well versed with the internal operations of the Asia-Pacific suppliers.

There’s an accompanying screenshot which further adds credence to the report of the original AirPods reaching the end of their life cycle on March 28. On March 29, they will be replaced by a new model which will be the AirPods 2.

There are rumors of Apple holding a media event on March 25 where apart from its news subscription service, it will be unveiling the AirPods 2, AirPower, iPad mini 5, and the 7th gen iPad. All these products will then go for sale on March 29.

Rumors indicate the AirPods 2 will come with a new surface coating for improved grip. They will also feature a new wireless chip — presumably the W2 — for improved Bluetooth connectivity. Lastly, they will also feature always-on ‘Hey Siri’ functionality and come with a new Qi-compatible carrying case. A recent rumor also claimed the new AirPods will be available in black, though given that it has not been verified from other sources, it is best to take it with a pinch of salt right now.

Given the sheer number of rumors and leaks pointing to an imminent AirPods 2 launch, there’s definitely a high probability that we will see Apple hold a media event on March 25 and then put the AirPods 2 along with other new hardware on sale from March 29.
