Report: iPhone 11 Lineup Will Feature 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch OLED Displays, Thinner Chassis

A new report from Macotakara claims that Apple will be launching two new iPhones with triple cameras at the rear in 2019 featuring a 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch OLED display, respectively. This will be in addition to the spec bump to the existing iPhone XS and iPhone XR lineup with a faster A-series chip.

The 2019 iPhone 11 lineup featuring a triple camera setup will also be thinner than their 2018 iPhone counterpart. The 6.1-inch OLED iPhone will be 0.15mm thinner than the iPhone XS, while the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will have a 0.4mm thinner body than the iPhone XS Max.

There is a possibility that Apple will switch to a bigger sensor size for the primary 12MP camera which should lead to image quality improvements.

The report also claims that Apple will be bundling a USB-C to Lightning cable along with an 18W USB-C power adapter with its 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch iPhone 11 variants. Lastly, as pointed out in other reports, the iPhone 11 lineup will come with a bigger battery to support reverse wireless charging.

Our Take

While Macotakara has a reliable track record, this report sounds unlikely. With Apple planning on launching three new iPhones this year, it does not make much sense for the company to launch a refreshed version of the iPhone XS and iPhone XR.

Also, the chances of Apple launching a 6.1-inch iPhone with an OLED display is unlikely. That display size is reserved for the iPhone XR which features an LCD panel. Plus, while we have heard rumors of Apple bundling an 18W USB-C charger with its new iPhones for quite a long time, the chances of it actually happening are slim. Reputed analyst Kuo has noted that Apple will continue to bundle a 5W charger with its iPhone 11 lineup this year.
