In a move that’s bound to cause inconvenience to a lot of iPhone users who are heavily into Netflix, the streaming service no longer supports AirPlay. This means that you won’t be able to AirPlay content from the Netflix app on your iPhone/iPad to your AirPlay-compatible TV or one that’s hooked to an Apple TV.

Netflix’s updated support documents mention that it had to pull AirPlay support from its iOS app due to “technical limitations.” When trying to use the Netflix app to AirPlay content to their TV, users are greeted with a message “Cannot play title. Please try again later.”

If you own an Apple TV, you will now have to use the tvOS app to watch content from Netflix on your TV instead of simply using AirPlay to from your iPhone.

Apple and Netflix clearly are at war and the missing AirPlay functionality from the Netflix app is a casualty of that. Netflix removing AirPlay support from its iOS app comes at the wrong time as Apple recently opened up AirPlay 2 protocol to TV makers and it is slated to make its way to TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio via a software update.

If you want to watch Netflix on your TV, you will now have to buy a Google Chromecast or a Fire TV Stick and connect it to your TV. The ability to AirPlay content from the Netflix iPhone app to one’s TV was far more convenient but that option no longer exists now.
