macOS 10.15 Will Include Standalone Music, Podcasts, Books, and TV Marzipan Apps

Apple will be bundling standalone version of apps for Music, Podcasts, and TV apps on macOS 10.15.  Additionally, Apple will also include a redesigned Books app in the next version of macOS.

The new Books app will have a sidebar similar to the Apple News app and feature different tabs for Library, Book Store, and the Audiobook store. The sidebar will be used to provide users with quick access to their books, PDFs, and more. The folks over at 9to5Mac have also managed to unearth the app icons for the standalone TV and Podcasts app which will be a part of macOS 10.15.

All the new apps will be made using Marzipan which means they will behave and look the same as their iPad counterpart. Apple already includes a few Marzipan apps in macOS Mojave — Home, Stocks, Voice Memos, and News. While these apps look good, they have some usability issues. Now that Apple has had over a year to work on Marzipan, it is likely that it would be able to resolve these issues and the next batch of Marzipan apps in macOS 10.1.5 will be free of them.

While Apple will be bundling a standalone Music app in macOS 10.15, it will also continue to include iTunes as a part of the OS. That’s because without iTunes, iPhone/iPad owners won’t be able to sync their devices to their Mac.

Apple is expected to release an SDK for developers to create their own Marzipan apps at this year’s WWDC.

We Want to Hear From You

What are your thoughts on Marzipan apps from Apple? Have you tried them on your Mac? Are you impressed with their quality? Or do you think they still need a lot of work?
