2017 vs 2018 MacBook Pro Comparison

Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with his prediction for Apple’s hardware plans for 2019. He makes some bold predictions including Apple launching a redesigned MacBook Pro with a 16-16.5-inch, a modular new MacPro, and more.

The report is light on details about the design changes but given the increase in screen size to 16-16.5-inch, it is likely that we are looking at Apple further reducing the bezels on its upcoming MacBook Pro. That would allow it to increase the display size without increasing its overall dimensions.

Apple used to offer a 17-inch MacBook Pro but discontinued selling it in 2012. The addition of a 16″ MacBook Pro should make a lot of creators happy who use a MacBook as their mobile workstation.

Kuo does not provide much insight on the 13-inch MacBook Pro except saying that Apple will offer it in a new variant with 32GB RAM. It is possible then that the 13-inch MacBook Pro will continue to retain the same design as the existing model.

Alongside a redesigned MacBook Pro, Kuo also expects Apple to release a 31.6-inch 6K display. It will feature a Mini LED-like backlight design. Apple stopped selling its Thunderbolt display in 2016 and instead started pointing customers to a 5K display from LG. Kuo’s report is light on other details about this monitor as well, though he refers to as “6k3k” display which points to it offering a 6K resolution.
