iOS 13 Public Beta Will Be Released as an OTA Update
Unlike the last few years, Apple did not release the iOS 13 developer beta as an OTA update. Instead, developers and advanced users were required to download the iOS 13 IPSW file for their device from Apple’s developer website and then install it using iTunes.
Many feared that Apple would follow a similar trend with the iOS 13.
However, Craig Federighi in reply to an email from Reddit user u/olixerr has confirmed that the public beta of iOS 13 will be released as an OTA. Apple released the first developer beta of iOS 13 as IPSW firmware files because it was intended for a “much smaller audience.”
As for the public beta, the first seed is expected to be released in July. This should be around the same time when Apple drops the second developer beta of iOS 13 with plenty of bug fixes and stability improvements.
In the last few years, many advanced users ended up installing the developer beta of a new iOS release by simply installing the beta profile configuration file on their iPhone/iPad after which they received the developer beta OTA update on their device. However, this time around, Apple did not release the iOS 13 beta profile configuration file and required developers and advanced users to download the entire IPSW file and sideload it using iTunes — a more tedious and time-consuming process.
