Yesterday, Apple released iOS 12.3 with plenty of bug fixes and a new TV app. iOS 12.3 is likely going to be the last major point release of iOS 12 as the company now focuses on iOS 13 due for unveiling next month at WWDC 2019.

With iOS 12 being all about performance and stability, how has the OS’ performance improved — or declined — since iOS 12.2 release in February? After all, Apple is known to slow down older phones with its software updates. As the variety of speed tests conducted by YouTuber iAppleBytes shows, iOS 12.3 offers the same level of performance as iOS 12.2.

This stands true not just for newer iPhones like the iPhone 8 but also older ones like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6. The UI performance and smoothness, app loading times, and benchmark scores were all in the same ballpark as iOS 12.2.

Ultimately, the above speed tests prove that Apple has delivered on its promise of not slowing down older iPhones with iOS 12. While lacking in features, the initial release of iOS 12 brought about a notable performance improvement on older iPhones and Apple ensured that the same level of performance and smoothness was available on subsequent releases as well.

If you were holding back on upgrading to iOS 12.3 thinking it could negatively affect the performance of your old iPhone or iPad, you can now upgrade to it without any worries.

How satisfied are you with iOS 12 in terms of performance and stability? Are you happy that Apple took the time to resolve the performance issues in iOS over the last 10 months with iOS 12?
