Huawei has been rolling out some impressive smartphones over the last year and this year, the company is looking to take things to the next level. Its upcoming flagship, the P30 Pro, will feature 10x hybrid zoom and other impressive camera capabilities.

Huawei’s flagship phones like the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro already offer 5x zoom thanks to their massive 40MP sensor at the rear. With the P30 Pro, the company is going to use a periscope-style camera to offer 10x hybrid zoom.

As per leaks, the Huawei P30 Pro will feature a quad-camera setup at the rear. This will include a 40MP “SuperSpectrum Sensor” shooter, a 10x zoom sensor, an ultra-wide angle shooter, and a ToF camera. That’s not it though. Leaked marketing materials point to the P30 Pro coming with improved low-light recording and something called “dual-view video” which will allow users to record videos from two rear cameras simultaneously.

Other specs of the Huawei P30 Pro are already known at this point. This includes a 7nm Kirin 980 chipset, 6/8GB RAM, 128/256GB storage, a dewdrop notch display at the front, and 40W SuperCharging. Alongside the P30 Pro, Huawei will also unveil the P30 which will feature a triple camera setup offering 5x zoom.

Our Take

Back in 2016, Apple was among the first few companies to launch a smartphone — the iPhone 7 Plus — offering 2x optical zoom. Since then though, Apple seems to have slipped behind other OEMs in the camera innovation department. Google, Huawei, and even Samsung have to a certain extent managed to surpass Apple in the imaging department. There was a point when iPhones used to offer the best cameras around in a smartphone but those days are long gone now. Apple is now behind the curve and it has a lot of catching up to do.

Do you think that iPhones still offer the best imaging experience in a smartphone? Or do you think it has some catching up to do in this department?
