Google Home to Soon Gain Apple Music Integration

It looks like Google and Apple are working together to bring Apple Music integration to Google Home devices. So far, Google Home only supports streaming music from third-party services like Spotify, Deezer, and Pandora. This is in addition to Google’s own streaming services — Google Play Music and YouTube Music.

By adding Apple Music integration to Google Home devices, Apple Music subscribers would be able to simply use their voice to playback music from their favorite artist or album on their Google Home smart speaker.

Google and Apple are still testing this integration because while the option showed up for a MacRumors reader in the Google Home app for iOS, he could not successfully link his Apple Music account.

Right now, that’s not possible due to the lack of Apple Music integration. This means that Apple Music subscribers with an iPhone have to connect to their Google Home speaker over Bluetooth and then play songs via it — just like they would do with any traditional Bluetooth speaker.

This seems to be another move from Apple to further expand Apple Music user base. Google Home and Amazon’s Echo speakers dominate the smart speaker category and so it is important that Apple Music is available on both these platforms to ensure a great end user experience. Amazon Echo set of speakers gained Apple Music integration late last year and now it looks like its the turn of Google Home speakers.
