Gmail for iOS With New Material Design Update Rolling Out

Almost three weeks after the initial announcement, Google has finally started rolling out the new Gmail app for iOS. The updated app comes with a brand new look that’s much cleaner and easier to browse than the outgoing version.

It is a bit too white, though there are rumors that Google is working on adding a dark theme to the app. Post the update, users are presented with the option to select a view layout — Default, Comfortable, and Compact. The redesigned app makes better use of the notch display on the likes of the iPhone X and iPhone XS.

The app makes many actions quicker to reach, including the ability to view attachments, mark an email as read or archive it, and more. The ability to switch between accounts has become slightly complex and now requires users to tap on their profile in the top-right corner and then select the account.

The new look for the Gmail app on iOS matches the redesigned look Gmail on the web got last year. A similar update is also rolling out to the Android version of Gmail. The iOS update is rolling out in batches and might not show up to all iPhone users across the globe immediately.
