Cydia has endured a lot of criticism over the years from the jailbreak community because of its seemingly out-of-style user interface and lack of modern aesthetics. Such criticisms have given rise to third-party alternatives, such as Sileo.
But in case you forgot, Cydia as a platform is entirely customizable ever since Jay Freeman updated the Cydia Substrate framework to allow for Cydia-centric jailbreak tweaks. With that in mind, iOS developer iOSNJB took to the drawing board to produce a new release called CydiaXIStyle 2.0.
As shown in the before and after screenshots above, CydiaXIStyle 2.0 replaces the lackluster Cydia homepage with something that looks like what you’d expect to find in the native App Store app. Large preview cards display curated content on the homepage, and display a wide variety of content such as the ‘Tweak of the day’ and the ‘Theme of the day’ in addition to others:
CydiaXIStyle 2.0 doesn’t come with any options to configure out of the box, and because it hasn’t even been out of a day yet, it remains to be seen just how often curated content on the redesigned homepage refreshes.
While CydiaXIStyle 2.0 certainly appears to improve the overall look and feel of the Cydia app’s homepage, one gripe we do have with it is with the changes it makes to the tab bar icons, which seem large and clunky compared to the original.
If you’re ready for a new look and feel for your Cydia app, then you might want to give CydiaXIStyle 2.0 a try. The tweak is now available for free in Cydia’s Packix repository and works on all jailbroken devices running iOS 7-12.
