Apple Stops Selling the 4K LG UltraFine Display on Its Online Store in the U.S.

Apple and LG teamed up to launch a new 4K (and separate 5K) display back in 2016, alongside the launch of new MacBook Pro models. Now, years later, Apple is whittling down availability.

As was first noted on Friday by MacRumors, Apple is no longer selling the 4K LG UltraFine Display on its online storefront in the United States. Apple pulled the listing altogether. Up until this point, the monitor was listed as “out of stock”, so those interested in the monitor have been unable to buy it from Apple for quite some time already.

At the time of publication it’s not immediately clear why Apple has decided to stop selling this particular model. The 4K LG UltraFine Display is still available from various other retailers, including Best Buy for its original $700 price tag. And Apple itself is still selling the 5K LG UltraFine Display.

So, if you were hoping to buy a 2016 4K LG UltraFine Display from Apple’s online store today, or anytime soon it appears, it looks like you’re out of luck.

Our Take

It’s hard to believe that Apple’s rumored plans to launch a 31.6-inch 6K mini LED display has any effect on this move. Especially considering the company is still selling the more expensive 5K option. Still, the timing could be construed as suspicious by some. That new mini LED display from Apple is speculated to launch later this year.
