Later this year, Apple is expected to launch a trio of new iPhone models. Two of which will be successors to the current iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The other, a follow-up to the successful iPhone XR. All three are supposed to be using a new processor under the hood, the A13.
And now a new report states that Apple’s supply partner, TSMC, has entered trial production of the newer, faster processor. In fact, according to the report, Apple started test production back in late April. That means, as long as things go to plan, Apple could enter mass production of the A13 processor later this year. Of course, we won’t see it in a real device until later this year, when the new iPhones launch.
The new A13 processor is built upon a “7nm+” process.
“Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has started production of a new chip for Apple Inc.’s next line of iPhones launching later this year, according to people familiar with the matter.
The processor, dubbed A13, went into early test production in April and mass-production is planned for as early as this month, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing internal matters.”
The report also includes various other tidbits of information. Bloomberg says the three new iPhone models will look like the current iPhone models for the most part. Except that each new iPhone will be getting one additional camera when compared to the current model. That means the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will feature triple camera setups on the back, and the iPhone XR will go dual-camera this year. Each is expected to feature the square camera encasement on the back.
The third camera in the iPhone XS lineup will be an ultra-wide lens. This will enable a broader range of zoom. And future new iPhone XR model owners will get better zoom in their device as well, but there’s no mention of an ultra-wide shooter in this device.
All three new iPhone models will feature reverse wireless charging, something that’s been rumored for some time now.
If Apple sticks to its yearly schedule, then we should see the company officially announce all three new iPhone models in early September of this year.
