Following the launch of Apple Pay in Austria, Apple is now working on expanding Apple Pay to the Netherlands. Dutch bank ING has teased Apple Pay support which hints at the imminent launch of the service.

There’s no word from ING as to when Apple Pay will launch in the Netherlands but given the teaser on their social media channels, an official launch should only be a couple of weeks away now. It is unclear if other banks in the Netherlands will also support Apple Pay at launch or not.

A report from earlier this year had pointed to Apple looking to expand Apple Pay to more European countries including Greece, Portugal, Estonia, and more. As of now, Apple Pay is available in major countries where the iPhone dominates or has a strong user base including China, Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Ireland, Russia, Finland, and more.

Apple will expand Apple Pay availability to more than 40 countries by the end of 2019.

Once it launches, Apple Pay will be available in the Netherlands to iPhone 6 and higher users. It will also be available for Apple Watch users and Touch ID-equipped MacBook Pro variants.

Our Take

With hardware sales slowing down and Apple Pay being a great sticking point for existing iPhone users, it is not surprising that Apple is working on bringing Apple Pay to more countries. Apple Pay is also good enough to make Android users switch to it due to its convenience factor. Plus, Apple gets a small pie of every transaction that’s done through Apple Pay which ultimately means more revenue for the company.
