Following the release of the new 10.5-inch iPad Air and the iPad mini 5, Apple has discontinued selling the previous 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the iPad mini 4.

The iPad mini 4 was previously the cheapest iPad from Apple with a price tag of $249. Now that it has been discontinued, the cheapest iPad is the 9.7-inch iPad which starts from $329. The new iPad mini starts from $399 and while it does offer more in terms of power and specs with an A12 Bionic chip and Apple Pencil support, it is accompanied with a steep price increase as well.

As for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, it was available for $649 but has now been discontinued following the launch of the new 10.5-inch iPad Air. The new tablet packs a more powerful A12 Bionic chip, Apple Pencil support, Gigabit LTE, and carries a lower $499 price tag.

Despite the introduction of the iPad mini 5 and the 10.5-inch iPad Air, Apple continues to sell the $329 9.7-inch iPad as well. It is not as powerful as other tablets in Apple’s lineup and features an A10 chip, though like others it does pack 1st gen Apple Pencil support.

Even though Apple has discontinued the iPad mini 4 and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, its iPad lineup has become extremely confusing with the addition of the new 10.5-inch iPad Air. It is unclear to me as to what market Apple is trying to target with the new iPad Air and how a $399 iPad mini with a 7.9-inch display makes sense in this day and age.
