Apple has announced a voluntary recall of AC wall plug adapters that were designed for use in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Apple says that in very rare conditions, the three-prong wall plug adapters might break and create a risk of the person touching it getting an electric shock.

Apple shipped the wall adapters with Mac and certain iOS devices between 2003 and 2010. These adapters were also a part of the company’s World Travel Adapter Kit. So far, Apple says it is aware of six incidents happening worldwide due to the faulty wall plug.

If you own a three-prong wall plug purchased during 2003-2010, Apple recommends you to visit this link for more details on how to get it exchanged for a new adapter. You can identify if your three-prong is one of the affected units or not by following the instructions below.

An affected three-prong plug adapter is white, with no letters on the inside slot where it attaches to the main Apple power adapter.

Once identified, you will have to contact your nearest Apple Retail Store or authorized service provider to get a replacement.

This is a voluntary recall so you are under no compulsion to get your three-prong AC adapter replaced by Apple. Ideally, you should though since you will be putting your own safety at risk otherwise.
