2019 iPhones to Feature Frosted Glass, Upgraded Face ID, Reverse Wireless Charging, More

For the 2019 iPhones, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple will launch three iPhones with the same display sizes as the existing models. This will include the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successor featuring a 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED display and an iPhone XR successor featuring a 6.1-inch LCD display.
Similar to Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro, the 2019 iPhone will feature a triple-camera setup. This will include an ultra-wide angle lens in addition to the two other sensors — wide angle and telephoto lens. Previous rumors point to the triple-camera setup being limited to the iPhone XS Max successor. Apple will also improve the Face ID hardware on these devices by including a more powerful flood illumination. Apple will also debut new indoor positioning technology with these phones.
The 5.8-inch iPhone XS successor might also support DSDS, with the iPhone XR successor getting a bump to 4GB RAM for improved performance. Additionally, Kuo claims all three iPhones will come with bigger batteries and reverse wireless charging that will allow them to charge other devices wirelessly. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro already includes this feature and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S10 is also expected to pack this feature. Lastly, Apple will switch to a frosted glass casing on the new iPhones to offer a slightly new look.
Sadly, all three iPhones will continue to feature Lightning connector and the same notch size. There were rumors of Apple switching to USB-C for its 2019 iPhones but looks like that’s not happening this year.
