New renders of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successors due this September depict negligibly thicker devices with a redesigned circular Mute switch within a pill-shaped cutout, a triple-lens camera bump integrated into the real glass and more.

Serial smartphone leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer of OnLeaks has teamed up with Indian site Cashkaro on the 2019 iPhone mockups and renderings seen in this post. The biggest visual difference from the outside versus the current models will be a circular Mute switch housed within a pill-shaped cutout like on older iPads.

Other side buttons and connectors should remain changed, including the volume buttons, the power button, the Lightning port and speaker grilles. The site also shared Hemmerstoffer’s information regarding the iPhone models coming this September, including the dimensions, exterior design and button placement.

The iPhone XS/Max successors should be negligibly thicker at 8.1mm and 7.8mm respectively than their predecessors that are 7.7mm thick (excluding the camera protrusion). The iPhone XS successor is said to measure in at 143.9mm tall and 71.4mm wide versus the current iPhone XS which has the width of 143.6mm and the height of 70.9mm.

Due to the slight change in thickness and the redesigned Mute switch, your existing cases probably won’t work with the new phones. Both new iPhones are expected to retain the same 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED displays as the current iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models.

The new models should also feature the same-sized notch and display design complete with the stainless steel frame, but the rear panel should be “new and unique.” Specifically, it’s said to be made from a single piece of glass that integrates a larger camera bump that may or may not hide the camera protrusion.

2019 iPhones are expected to sport three rear cameras arranged in a triangular configuration within the rectangular-shaped bump, but the jury is still out as to the bump’s shape. As for the rear microphone, the renderings suggest it will be repositioned to the bottom of the camera bump. The site shared no information regarding a successor to the 6.1-inch iPhone XR, which prior rumors said would incorporate a dual-lens rear camera system.

Apple is thought to have moved to a three-year iPhone redesign cycle back in 2016 so 2019 would mark the last year of the near fullscreen notched design debuted by iPhone X.

These renderings are based on Hemmerstoffer’s information obtained from an unknown source, so take them with a grain of salt.
