2019 iPhone XR Will Feature Dual Rear Cameras, Ship with 18W USB-C Charger

iPhone XR side profile

A new report from Japanese site Macotakara citing sources from the Chinese production chain point to the 2019 iPhone XR coming with a dual-camera setup at the rear.

The leak says that 2019 iPhone XR will adopt the same dual-camera configuration as currently found on the iPhone XS series. This means the primary 12MP sensor will be accompanied by a secondary telephoto sensor offering 2x optical zoom. However, going by previous leaks and the current trend in the smartphone industry, this seems unlikely to me. Apple will likely include an ultra-wide angle shooter on the 2019 iPhone XR as it is arguably more useful than a telephoto sensor.

Like the 2019 iPhone 11 series, the 2019 iPhone XR will also feature a 3D molded glass.

Additionally, the report says that Apple will include an 18W USB-C to Lightning charger with the 2019 iPhone XR. This is the same charger that Apple bundled with the 2018 iPad Pro last year as well.

This is a rumor that circulated before the launch of the 2018 iPhone XS series as well but Apple eventually shipped the devices with its old 5W charger. It remains to be seen if this time around Apple will indeed ship its 2019 iPhones with a faster 18W charger or not.

Our Take

If Apple does end up shipping an 18W USB-C charger with the 2019 iPhone XR, it will also be a part of the retail packaging of the 2019 iPhone 11 series. Given that these handsets are expected to ship with higher capacity batteries to better support reverse wireless charging, the inclusion of a fast wired charger would be a welcome addition from Apple.
