You Can Now Make Table Appointments Using Google Duplex on Your iPhone
Back at I/O 2018, Google demoed Google Duplex — an AI-powered system which allows Google Assistant to call businesses to make hotel reservations and more. When Google first demoed Duplex, everyone was amazed at what Assistant was capable of. Now, almost a year later, Google is bringing Duplex to iPhones.
Google initially announced that it is bringing Duplex to iOS last month but it is only now that the company seems to have started rolling out the feature to iPhones and iPads.
Google Duplex was initially only available on the company’s own Pixel devices and in a few states in the United States. However, over time, Google has expanded the feature to 43 US states and it is now bringing it to more Android devices as well. You can find a list of all the states where Google Duplex works over here.
As per the company’s updated Duplex compatibility list, Google Duplex will now be available on all Android devices running Lollipop or higher. It will also be available on all iPhones which have the Google Assistant app installed. There’s no word from Google on bringing Duplex to regions outside of the United States. So, if you live in any other part of the world, you are out of luck.
If you already have the latest version of the Google Assistant app installed on your iPhone, you can simply try asking Assistant to make a hotel or restaurant reservation for you or checking the business time of a store.
Here’s hoping that Siri is able to offer something similar within the next decade.
