To take on the iPhone XR and iPhone XS, Samsung unveiled its flagship Galaxy S10 lineup at an Unpacked event in New York. The Galaxy S10 lineup comprises of three different phones this time around — the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+.
All three phones share the same set of internals, the same rear and front camera sensor, and offer the same level of connectivity. They differ from each other in terms of display size, battery capacity, camera configuration, and more. The segregation helps Samsung in better taking on Apple’s 2018 iPhone lineup.
Similar to the iPhone XR and iPhone XS lineup, the Galaxy S10 lineup features the same internals and build quality/design. This means we are looking at a 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset (or an 8nm Exynos 9820 chipset for international markets), 6GB RAM (8GB RAM on the Galaxy S10 and S10+), 128GB storage, a microSD card slot, and more. The connectivity features are also the same, with the devices offering dual-SIM capabilities, LTE Cat 20. (2Gbps download speeds), NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm jack, GPS, USB-C, 12W wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and more. All three phones feature an aluminum chassis sandwiched by Gorilla Glass 6 panels at the front and rear. They are all IP68 certified as well.
Galaxy S10e
The Galaxy S10e ditches the in-display ultrasound fingerprint sensor found on the Galaxy S10 and S10+ with a traditional fingerprint scanner mounted on the right side. It also features a 5.8-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel that’s completely flat.
Finally, unlike the other two Galaxy S10 variants, the S10e only comes with a dual-camera setup at its rear. The primary shooter is a 12MP dual aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4) shooter with OIS and 1.4um large pixels. The secondary shooter is an ultra-wide angle 16MP f/2.2 shooter which should come in useful for capturing landscape photos. At the front, there is a 10MP f/1.9 shooter with Dual Pixel autofocus.
Galaxy S10
The Galaxy S10 features an in-display fingerprint scanner and a triple-camera setup at the rear. Apart from the 12MP primary sensor and a 16MP ultra-wide angle shooter as seen on the Galaxy S10e, there’s also a 12MP telephoto sensor with OIS that offers 2x optical zoom.
The Galaxy S10 comes with a bigger and higher resolution 6.1-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display that is curved on its edges. The higher resolution display is complemented by a slightly bigger 3,400mAh battery. The Galaxy S10 will start from $899 in the U.S.
Galaxy S10+
The Galaxy S10+ is the decked out version of the Galaxy S10 series. It comes with a massive 6.3-inch QHD+ curved Super AMOLED display. While it features the same triple-camera setup at the rear as the Galaxy S10, it has a dual-camera setup at the front. The 10MP f/1.9 selfie shooter is complemented by an 8MP f/2.2 shooter that is used for capturing depth information for Live Focus/Portrait photos.
The Galaxy S10+ also promises to offer the best battery life of the lot with its massive 4,100mAh battery. The Galaxy S10+ starts from $999 in the United States.
