Rumor Claims iOS 13 Will Drop Support for iPhone 5s, iPhone SE, and iPhone 6
A questionable rumor claims that iOS 13 will drop support for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 series, and iPhone SE. Its a dubious rumor for sure since there’s a lot of contradiction in the information.
As per the rumor, Apple will drop support for the following iPhones and iPads with iOS 13:
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone SE
- iPad mini 2
- iPad Air
I highly doubt that Apple will drop support for the iPhone SE with iOS 13. This is because it is still a popular phone with a sizeable user base. Plus, it is powered by an A9 chip which is found inside the iPhone 6s and 5th gen iPad as well. There’s no reason for Apple to support A9-powered devices like the iPhone 6s and still drop support for the iPhone SE.
The same stands true for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus which remain incredibly popular smartphones even now.
Dropping support for so many popular smartphones with iOS 13 would be a stark contrast to when Apple released iOS 12 last year which supported the same set of devices as iOS 11.
Our Take
iOS 13 is expected to introduce a lot of new features so we could see Apple drop support for some of its relatively popular older devices.
Apple is definitely going to drop support for the iPhone 5s with iOS 13 as that phone is now definitely showing its age. However, despite what this rumor claims, I doubt we are going to see Apple drop support for iPhone SE and iPhone 6 with iOS 13.
