For years, the iPhone’s passcode interface has appeared as a traditional number pad. But if you’re looking for something a bit more exotic that will help your handset stand out from the crowd, then you just might come to appreciate a newly-released jailbreak tweak called RotaryPass by iOS developers Luke Murris and Geometric Software.
As you can discern for yourself in the screenshot examples above, RotaryPass brings an entirely new passcode entry interface to your iPhone – more specifically, one that’s based on those antiquated rotary-style telephones that were commonplace before the 21stcentury.
For a more comprehensive demo, we’ve embedded the developer’s video below:
The concept isn’t new, but we can attest to the fact that it was rather popular back when SlideMe was released for iOS 9 nearly three years ago.
RotaryPass is fully-customizable, and upon installation, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle RotaryPass on or off on demand
- Configure a custom idle color
- Configure a custom selection color
- Configure a custom background color
- Configure a custom ring size
- Configure a custom border color
- Configure a custom border size
- Configure a custom knob color
- Configure a custom knob style
- Configure a custom label color
- Configure a custom label size
A respring isn’t necessary upon making changes, as they’ll be applied to your handset automatically.
RotaryPass doesn’t necessarily make entering your passcode any easier, nor does it add any additional security to your device apart from average Joes not understanding how to operate it; but it can certainly make you look cooler as you enter your passcode, and you’re certain to get a few questions about as people take notice.
From what we can tell, the developer spent a lot of time fine-tuning his tweak to look amazing on Apple’s latest and greatest handsets and firmware versions. The tweak is fully compatible with all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices, including the A12(X) variety.
If you have a soft spot for the classic rotary-style number entry interface and think it’d be fun to use on your iPhone for passcode entry, then you can download RotaryPass for $2.99 from the Geometric Software repository in Cydia or Sileo.
