Apple is no stranger to expensive hardware, with the spec’d out iMac Pro running upwards of $15,000. With its new Mac Pro though, Apple is taking things to a different level altogether with the top spec model likely costing around $50,000. Yes, fifty thousand dollars!

The new Mac Pro is out and out meant for hardcore pro users. The amount of horsepower it offers, it is meant for extremely heavy renderings, computation, and other similar workloads. Anything else, and it would be doing a disservice to the Mac Pro.

Apple proudly boasted that the new Mac Pro offers a 28-core Intel Xeon processor, up to 1.5TB (!) RAM ECC RAM, 2x Radeon Pro Vega II GPUs, and more. Apple only revealed the base price of the 2019 Mac Pro which starts at $5,999. Other details regarding component upgrades are not yet known, though The Verge has done an analysis and claims that the top-end Mac Pro can cost upwards of $50,000.

That 28-core Intel Xeon CPU which Apple boasted about in the keynote will alone set users back by almost $7500. Then, that massive 1.5TB of RAM will cost nearly $18,000. Throw in the base price of $5,999 of the Mac Pro itself and you are already looking at a machine that’s priced at $32,500. Max in the storage, throw in 2x Radeon Vega II GPUs with an estimated price of $12,000, and the $4,999 Apple Pro XDR display and you are looking at a Mac Pro that costs well above $50,000.

The assumption only takes into account one Pro XDR display from Apple but given that you are going to buy a maxed out Mac Pro, you will likely want at least 3x XDR displays. That pushes the entire cost of the set up to almost $65,000!

As I said at the beginning of this article, the 2019 Mac Pro is meant for out and out pro users. Other users would be better served by Apple’s 2019 MacBook Pro or the iMac Pro.
