When I first started jailbreaking many years ago, you were the cool kid on the block if you had access to application shortcuts on your iPhone’s Lock screen. For whatever reason, application shortcut add-ons have all but disappeared in recent memory, but a new jailbreak tweak called LockDock by iOS developer Blake Boxberger appears to revive this once popular concept.
LockDock takes advantage of an application launcher that already exists on the iOS platform – the Home screen’s application Dock – and makes it accessible from the Lock screen in addition to the Home screen, as shown above.
As you might come to expect, passcode-protected devices will continue to protect those apps that LockDock displays on your Lock screen with the handset’s default authentication method, be it Face ID, Touch ID, or the traditional passcode.
LockDock is customizable and comes with three different blur styles and two different Dock styles, which have been illustrated above for your convenience. Those blur styles include light, dark, and no blur at all, while the two Dock styles match what you’d expect to see on a notched handset and a non-notched handset.
The tweak adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can set it up however you’d like:
Here, you can:
- Toggle the tweak on or off on demand
- Choose between iPhone X (notched) and legacy (non-notched) Dock styles
- Choose between no blur, light blur, and dark blur options
- Hide indicators from the Lock screen
- Hide shortcuts from the Lock screen
As a bonus, you can tap and drag on the Dock to move it around anywhere you’d like on your Lock screen; see the demo below:
For me, LockDock has been a nostalgic trip down memory lane, and you might feel the same way if you’ve been jailbreaking for as long as I have. Apart from that, the tweak provides useful quick access to some of your favorite apps at a glance.
If you’re interested in trying LockDock for yourself, then you can download it from the Dynastic Repo repository for $1.99. LockDock supports all jailbroken handsets running iOS 11 and 12.
