Despite packing a ton of new features, Apple also included some performance improvements in iOS 13. The company managed to reduce the app download and installation size in iOS 13 by over 50 percent. But that’s not it as Apple also claims that app launching is 2x faster on iOS 13.

So, how fast do apps open on iOS 13 beta compared to iOS 12.4 beta or iOS 12.3? YouTuber iAppleBytes has done a series of comparison on older iPhones like the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8 to see if iOS 13 beta 1 brings about any notable performance improvements.

As it turns out, there’s no real performance improvement under iOS 13, but there are quite a few reasons behind that. All the three iPhones — iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8 — perform the same in a series of tasks on iOS 13 beta 1 as they do in iOS 12.3.1 or iOS 12.4 beta. They do score a wee bit higher in benchmark scores but that’s about it.

The positive takeaway to this is that despite adding so many new features, Apple has ensured that iOS 13 does not bring about any performance regression like previous iOS updates. Plus, this is still the first beta of iOS 13 we are talking about. Apple will continue to further optimize and tweak the OS, so there’s room for slight performance improvement.

Our Take

As for the faster app launch times that Apple promised, that’s something we are going to see once iOS 13 is officially released and developers start updating their iOS 13-compatible apps to the App Store. It is likely that Apple made some underlying changes in iOS app compilation that reduces an app’s overall size and helps in improving the app opening times. So, until and unless iOS 13 compatible apps make their way to the App Store, this is not something that could be tested.
