iOS 12.2 vs iOS 12.1.2 Speed Test
Apple released iOS 12.2 for all compatible iPhones and iPads with a number of new features. Before the company gets around to announcing iOS 13 at WWC 2019, iOS 12.2 is likely going to be the last major feature-packed update for iOS 12. When iOS 12 was first introduced, Apple claimed major performance improvements. Over time though, it is believed that as Apple adds new features, the performance of the OS takes a beating.
How does iOS 12.2 fare when compared to iOS 12.1.4? Is there any performance improvement or has it actually taken a beating?
Well, as speed tests conducted by YouTuber iAppleBytes show on a variety of iPhones show, iOS 12.2 continues to offer the same level of performance as iOS 12.1.4. That’s great news especially since iOS 12.1.4 offers the same performance as iOS 12. Apple has not only managed to add new features to iOS 12 since its initial release but also ensured that its performance was not impacted negatively.
Apple really seems to have turned a new leaf with iOS 12. Despite numerous iOS 12 releases since its initial release, the company has managed to maintain the same level of performance.
Our Take
Apple seems to have understood that degrading the performance of its devices with every new software update was a major usability issue and worked on fixing that aspect. It will be interesting to see as to how iOS 13 will perform when compared to iOS 12 on older iPhones when it is released later this year. While iOS 12 focused solely on performance, iOS 13 is expected to be a feature-packed update.
