Fortnite season eight has landed, bringing new locations, new weapons, and explosive changes. Players can launch themselves across the map using the new cannon, explore the scorching volcano, and more.
There’s also a brand new Battle Pass with 100 levels, and more than 100 new rewards.
Season eight has been a long time coming for Fortnite fans. Thanks to the holidays, last season ran for two weeks longer than players anticipated, and started to feel a little dull. But that’s all changed.
There’s all-new locations, weapons, and other content for Fortnite fans to enjoy today. Here are all the details — and the exciting season launch trailer.
Fortnite season 8 out now
Welcome changes to the Battle Royale map bring brand new locations for fans to explore, including Sunny Steps, Lazy Lagoon, and a volcano.
“Freed from the Ice King’s castle, the now-powerful Prisoner has brought fire and flame to Fortnite and its islands,” Epic says. “Pirates, Ninjas and a ship load of new fighters will tussle over treasure, battle with Pirate Cannons and uncover legendary loot.”
Volcanic vents dotted around the map launch you into the air and help you get around faster, and for a more explosive route into battle, you can use the pirate cannons to launch cannonballs or yourself.
Cannons deal 100 damage with a direct hit, and 50 damage to enemies within a small radius.
A bunch of other items has been vaulted with the season eight update, including:
- Sneaky snowman
- Chiller grenade
- X-4 Stormwing
- Shopping kart
- All-terrain kart
Epic has also reduced the availability of high-tier assault rifles.
A brand new Battle Pass
The season eight Battle Pass, which is free for those who completed 13 free Overtime challenges, brings 100 brand new challenges, and over 100 new rewards.
The new Blackheart and Hybrid progressive outfits are unlocked right away for Battle Pass buyers, and if you opt for the bundle, you’ll get the Sidewinder outfit instantly as well.

There are lots of other improvements and bug fixes included in the first season eight update — all of which are detailed on the official Fortnite blog. If you’re already ready to jump into the action, you can download the update across all platforms, including iOS, now.
