Last year at Computex, Apple showed off a ZenBook featuring a small display instead of the touchpad. This year, it is doubling down on the concept and unveiled the ZenBook Pro Duo. It comes with not one but two 4K displays.

Apart from the traditional 15-inch 16:9 OLED display, the area above the keyboard also houses a 32:9 aspect ratio “ScreenPad Plus” display. Think of it like the TouchBar on the MacBook Pro just that it is significantly bigger and more pixel-packed.

The secondary display is meant to complement the primary display. Apart from showing important controls for selected compatible apps, it can also be used as a full-screen as well.

Despite the inclusion of this massive display in the keyboard area, Asus has managed to include a full-sized keyboard on the ZenBook Pro Duo. It is packed to the brim as well including an 8-core Intel Core i9 processor, Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU, Thunderbolt 3 port, 2x USB-A port, HDMI port, and more. There are only two downsides of the laptop — first, it is likely going to have mediocre battery life due to two 4K displays. Secondly, it is pretty hefty at 2.5kg

There was no word on pricing or availability from Asus, but it is likely that the ZenBook Pro Duo won’t be cheap whenever it hits the stores.

Our Take

The ZenBook Pro Duo is definitely going to find a limited number of takers due to its heavy weight and unique concept. However, unlike Apple, Asus is at least experimenting and trying to innovate in this space. The former has been sticking to its TouchBar concept and unreliable butterfly keyboards on its MacBook Pro lineup despite lackluster public response.
