At the WWDC, Apple announced a new feature called HomeKit Secure Video. The security feature processes video footage captured by security cameras, locally and then sends it over iCloud for analysis.

Apple had explained earlier that only one camera will be supported with a 200GB plan. Meanwhile, a 2TB Plan will let you sync five cameras to the HomeKit Secure Video. Apple has assured that the cameras will piggyback on iPad, Apple TV or HomePad for the local processing. Once done the video will be encrypted and uploaded to iCloud.

Like most of the other security cameras, Apple will send you notifications if any type of activity is detected. It is also worth noting that Apple is offering 10-day free storage for the video footage. In other words, the uploaded videos will not count against your data quota for 10 days.

In the U.S, the 200GB plan costs $2.99/month while the 2TB Plan is priced at $9.99 month. The subscription is justified as the plan is valid for entire iCloud and not just the security camera footage. Meanwhile, the cloud storage options offered by the other companies are mostly suited for uploading and reviewing security camera footage.

Apple has already stated that Logitech and Eufy will be among the first companies offering HomeKit Secure Video support. On the other hand, the HomeKit for routers will add an extra layer of protection and will automatically firewall compromised device. As far as the routers are concerned, Linksys, Eero, and Charter Spectrum will be the first ones to offer HomeKit Secure supported routers.
