Apple Buys Patent Portfolio of Lighthouse AI, a Failed AI-Powered Home Security Camera Company

Apple has acquired the patent portfolio of Lighthouse AI, a failed home security camera startup. The patents acquired by Apple include both, ones that have already been granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and ones that are still pending.
Apple acquired the patents in late 2018, though the details of this acquisition are coming to light only now. The six patents acquired by Apple are as follows:
Lighthouse used to offer AI-powered home security camera solutions. Its cameras were AI-powered and allowed users to ask the assistant questions like “when was the package delivered by the UPS guy?” instead of requiring them to scrub through the recorded timeline footage.
The company did not meet with commercial success though, which led it to shut down its business late last year and as a part of that, it sold its patent portfolio to Apple. It is unclear as to how much money Apple paid to acquire the patents. Apple itself does not sell any home security camera solutions so it will be interesting to see how the company takes advantage of the patents it has acquired from Lighthouse AI.
