Ahead of WWDC early next week, Mark Gurman for Bloomberg has revealed some interesting tidbits about what we can expect at the event.

The report reiterates that watchOS 6 will help the Apple Watch in reducing its reliance on the iPhone. The update will introduce an App Store right on the Apple Watch along with new apps like calculator and voice recorder. The messaging capabilities of the wearable will also be enhanced as a part of the update. The iPad will also get a huge productivity boost as a part of iOS 13 which will include an enhanced home screen and new multitasking features to make it a better PC replacement.

With macOS 10.15, Apple is going to introduce three new apps — Music, TV, and Podcasts — which will replace iTunes. Using these apps, iPhone owners would be able to sync and backup their device to their Mac and manage media on it.

The most interesting tidbit from the report is that Apple has started adding the required technology in internal versions of iOS 13 that supports a future headset. While the company is not expected to talk about its AR headset or its efforts in this regard this year, it does send a strong signal that Apple’s AR glasses could debut in 2020.

Our Take

Apple has made a number of acquisitions over the last few years for its AR/VR headset. Rumors have pointed to the company planning on launching its AR headset in 2020. A previous report detailed that the headset would be powered by a custom chip and run on ‘rOS’. If Apple indeed plans on launching an AR headset to the public in 2020 or even 2021, it makes sense for the company to start adding support for the necessary tech in iOS 13 — or at least start testing it internally.
