: Apple changed its strategy with the iPhone lineup this year. The company replaced the mini model with Plus with the aim of offering the biggest display for a cheaper price. But, it appears that the iPhone 14 Plus couldn’t manage to woo consumers and Apple is struggling to sell the device. Reports now suggest that Apple is thinking of new ways to “reevaluate how it treats pro and non-pro iPhones for the iPhone 15”.
A report from MacRumors, quoting yeux1122, suggests that Apple is evaluating two options to make its next Plus phone a success. First, the Cupertino-based tech giant is said to further differentiate between the Pro and the non-Pro iPhone models. This, the company believes, will push price-sensitive consumers who wish to get a large screen phone to opt for the iPhone 15 Plus. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggested the same move a couple of weeks ago.
Second, Apple is said to be considering making the upcoming iPhone 15 Plus much more affordable. The iPhone 14 Plus currently starts at a price of Rs 89,900 for the base 128GB storage model. Now if Apple decides to cut the price of the Plus model, it also means that the vanilla model of the iPhone 15 will also see a price drop. The current iPhone model, aka the iPhone 14 starts at a price of Rs 79,900. Now, whether Apple will make the Plus model cheaper next year or not, only time will say, currently, the company is targeting to sell the iPhone 14 Plus, which hasn’t been well received by consumers globally.
This year, Apple didn’t bring in a lot of changes to the cheaper iPhone models. Instead, it focused on upgrading the Pro models. So much so that the iPhone 14 and the predecessor iPhone 13 offer the same set of specifications as well as design. In fact, the iPhone 14 is also powered by last year’s chipset A15 Bionic, while the iPhone 14 Pro models come packed with the company’s latest A16 Bionic chip.
In 2023, Apple is expected to unveil four new models under the iPhone 15 series, consisting of the iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Plus. The year may not witness the launch of any affordable iPhone model, aka the successor to the iPhone SE 3. The iPhone 15 series phones are expected to be powered by Apple’s next A17 Bionic chip, offer a better camera and battery performance. In fact, it is also believed that all models under the iPhone 15 series will include the Dynamic Island design, which is currently available only on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
