It’s Saturday, and you know what that means: time for another installment of our Apps of the Week roundup. In this week’s episode we have an app for sprucing up your contact lists, a super-fast reminders app and a one-tap video editor. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.
Vignette
Tired of staring at gray circles in your contact list and Messages app? Vignette is here to help. The app crawls social media—Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and even Gravatar—to find photos of your contacts and then updates your contacts database with the images. A few things worth noting: Vignette runs entirely on your phone so your contacts aren’t transmitted anywhere. You don’t need to login to your social media accounts. The app is free but saving the contact photos will cost you.
Remind Me Faster
Remind Me Faster is designed to let you add a reminder with as few taps as possible. Open the app and you’re typing. Add a reminder and you’re ready to type the next. The interface is optimized for the moment something crosses your mind. The app compliments the stock Reminders app in iOS, plus it offers handy swipe-based gestures and dark app and icon themes. If current reminder apps aren’t doing it for you, check this one out this weekend.
Blow
Blow is a video tool for effortlessly editing short footage. The app aims to make posting great videos accessible to everyone—so you don’t need to be Steven Spielberg to create sharp content. Just select your favorite video from your Camera Roll, pick a mood and share your creation on your favorite social network. Supports both Snapchat and Instagram.
Solar Explorer
In Solar Explorer: New Dawn, players are tasked with establishing bases on worlds of the Inner Solar system in order to save the citizens of earth. Features include 6 alien worlds built with award-nominated visuals, an immersive soundtrack, 40 missions spanning 6 alien worlds, customizable lander craft and of course unique lander-type of gameplay. If you like unique titles with high standards, this one for sure seems worth checking out.
#DRIVE
Prefer something a little less involved? Check out Drive. It’s an endless driver inspired by road and action movies from the 1970’s, and it couldn’t be any simpler. Just pick a car, pick a place, and drive. And try not to hit anything. That’s literally all there is to it. Enjoy!
