Facebook-owned WhatsApp may be working on an iPad version of the popular messaging app nearly four years after rival Viber got optimized for iPad.
That’s according to a new report by WABetaInfo, a blog dedicated to following all the changes in theupcoming WhatsApp releases.
While iPad support is unavailable in the latest build (version 2.19.40, as of this writing), compatibility will reportedly be added in a future release of the app, which is currently available to select beta testers via Apple’s TestFlight system. The iPad version will support all models.
In the meantime, WhatsApp fans can launch the app on their iPad thanks to the WhatsApp Web workaround: head over to web.whatsapp.com in Safari on your iPad, which will redirect you to the WhatsApp home page, then tap and hold the URL field and choose Load Desktop Site.
You should now see the familiar WhatsApp Web interface with the QR code. Now tap Settings > WhatsApp Web in the iPhone app and scan the QR code to pair the two devices.
Facebook recently released WhatsApp Business to everyone following its January 2018 launch in select markets. That app helps businesses connect and chat with their customers. WhatsApp in May 2016 launched a desktop app (three years following Viber for desktop).
