Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd is continuing the
hype for his upcoming iOS 12 jailbreak on Friday as he inches closer to dropping
the first public beta.
Subtle hints made their way to Twitter this afternoon as Pwn20wnd
changed his name once again from “Pwn20wnd is preparing unc0ver for iOS 12…” to
“Pwn20wnd is preparing to drop unc0ver for iOS 12:”
Furthermore, a Tweet shared by rootlessJB 3.0 mastermind
Jake James reveals what appears to be Cydia running on a pwned iOS 12.1.1
device – more specifically an iPad – with the seemingly teasing message “… @pwn20wnd
smh did you just break into my device:”
In another follow-up Tweet, James mentions that the
jailbreak is working very well without bugs despite having installed several
things from Cydia.
Given the current circumstances, it would seem that the
internal beta testing phase is nearly complete and that most of the bugs have
been squashed. We expect that Pwn20wnd will drop the first public beta of his
iOS 12 jailbreak soon, although no ETA has been provided just yet.
At the time of this writing, the latest public release of the unc0ver jailbreak is version 2.2.6 with
support for iOS 11.0-11.4 beta 3. The unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release supports iOS
11.4 and 11.4.1 in addition to partial support for iOS 12, but the pre-release
is a beta and shouldn’t be deployed unless you understand the risks of beta
software and know how to fix potential problems.
All current builds of the unc0ver jailbreak tool – both production releases
and public betas – can
be downloaded from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository. In the meantime,
stay tuned to iDB for the latest jailbreak updates as they materialize.
