Payments for the British Government’s Global Entry Service can now be made through Apple Pay, meaning transactions can be approved with fingerprints or facial recognition.

According to ITV, via MacRumors, four British Government services have initially begun accepting Apple Pay to approve online transactions via the gov.uk website.

In addition to the GlobaL Entry Service, Apple Pay can be used in conjunction with online disclosure and barring service (DBS) checks, the Registered Traveller Service and the Electronic Visa Waiver Service for people in the Middle East coming to the UK. Support for additional services will be rolled out at a later stage, the publication noted, including local government, police and the NHS.

Till Wirth, lead product manager of gov.uk Pay:

Allowing people to pay for Government services through Apple Pay and Google Pay means they won’t have to enter their credit or debit card information when making payments. This innovation will increase the convenience and security of gov.uk Pay for users and hopefully make their experience online a lot easier.

Aside from Apple Pay support, the Global Entry Service, which enables UK citizens to get expedited entry to the US, is also accepting Google Pay.
