Rumor: AirPower To Launch in ‘Late March’

Posted by Rajesh Pandey on Mar 22, 2019 in Apple News

This week, Apple announced the iPad mini 5, iPad Air, refreshed iMacs, and 2nd gen AirPods but it did not announce the AirPower despite leaks pointing to a March launch. However, DigiTimes sources claim that Apple plans on releasing the AirPower in “late March.”

Given that we are going to enter the last week of March in a couple of days, “late March” has pretty much begun. It is possible that Apple will simply put the AirPower up for sale right after its ‘Show Time’ event on March 25.

The sources said that Apple’s AirPower wireless charger for iPhones, Apple Watch and AirPods is set to be officially launched in late March, which will significantly drive up Lite-On’s revenues for the second quarter of 2019.

The company had already announced the AirPower alongside the iPhone X in 2017 so it is possible that it decides to skip announcing it again and instead directly puts it on sale. The delay in AirPower release has already caused Apple a lot of embarrassment and perhaps it just wants to avoid further embarrassment by doing this.

DigiTimes does have a sketchy past when it comes to Apple rumors so it is better to take this one with a pinch of salt as well.

Our Take

An image discovered on Apple’s website did show AirPower with iPhone XS which clearly indicates that Apple still intends to launch the wireless charger. Rumors from earlier this year claimed that AirPower had gone into mass production in late January. If we don’t see Apple put the AirPower on sale this month, it is unlikely that the wireless charger will then go on sale before September when Apple announces it (again) alongside its 2019 iPhones.

Are you still hoping for an AirPower release?
