This week was busy for Apple, even if it did end on a quiet note. Not only did the company announce new iPads and new iMacs, but also an update to the AirPods.

Nothing about Apple’s second-generation AirPods is all that surprising. In fact, Apple basically covered the bases and that’s about it. We already knew that “Hey Siri” functionality was going to be added. But even beyond that, the upgraded battery life is just a standard aspect that I imagine most people would have assumed was going to happen. And for folks who have been using the AirPods (almost) every day for months now, probably demanded.

Of course, one of the best new features is the wireless charging case. It does hike up the price tag a bit, but the good news is that the original AirPods are also compatible with the new case, too. The wireless charging case was a terribly kept secret, too. And after so many rumors, we’ve all just been waiting for AirPods (2nd Gen) to finally launch.

Now that they have, what say you? Are you planning on picking up a pair?

I’m on the fence with it, but I can feel myself getting pushed into the direction of buy almost every single day. I’ve used my AirPods for over a year now, and while there were some days I didn’t equip them, that was definitely not the norm. I use my headphones all the time, and the AirPods are my favorite Apple device in a long, long time. I think they’re great. And the battery life started so strong, both with each individual headphone and the charging case itself.

But now, the year-or-so that it’s been and my AirPods don’t seem to hold the same kind of charge they used to. I feel like I have to charge the charging case a lot more often, too. It’s pretty common that I see one, or both, of my AirPods telling me they have only 80% battery remaining when I’ve only just started using them. And don’t even get me started on talk time. It’s a precipitous fall in that case.

Whether or not the individual changes that Apple made to the second-generation AirPods are worthwhile or not is for the individual to consider. For me, it is going to come down to that battery life. 50% more talk time is not nothing, after all. I’m really looking forward to the next version of the AirPods just getting better battery life in general, though.

What about you? If you’re considering buying the new 2nd-generation AirPods, what’s swaying your decision towards buy? And if you have the original AirPods and you’ve decided not to upgrade, why are you waiting?
